Whether regular blackout curtain fabric is easy to fall off or age during long-term use mainly depends on the following factors:
1. Durability of the shading coating
Silver-coated blackout fabric (three or four layers of silver coating):
Advantages: Good shading effect, can effectively reflect sunlight and reduce indoor temperature.
Disadvantages: If the quality is poor, the coating may fall off, peel off or crack after long-term use or frequent washing, resulting in a decrease in shading effect.
Black silk blackout fabric (shading is achieved through weaving process, no coating required):
Advantages: No coating, no peeling problem, long-lasting shading performance and long life.
Disadvantages: The general shading rate is lower than that of high-quality coated fabrics, and thicker fabrics may be required to achieve the same shading effect.
2. Aging degree of the material
Polyester: It is durable and not easy to deform or wrinkle, but it may fade after long-term exposure to strong sunlight, especially light-colored curtains.
Cotton and linen blend: comfortable texture, but more likely to shrink or fade than polyester, not suitable for long-term exposure to direct sunlight.
PVC coated blackout cloth: strong waterproof and anti-fouling ability, but long-term use may cause problems such as hardening and cracking.
3. External factors affecting aging
Sun exposure: long-term exposure to sunlight may cause curtain fabrics to become brittle, faded or hardened.
Cleaning method: frequent washing, dry cleaning or strong rubbing may accelerate the shedding of the coating and affect the shading effect. It is recommended to use low-temperature hand washing or vacuum cleaning to avoid damaging the fabric.
Air humidity: curtains may become moldy or deteriorate in a humid environment for a long time, affecting the appearance and durability.
4. How to extend the service life
Choose high-quality blackout fabrics, such as uncoated black silk blackout fabrics or multi-layer composite fabrics.
Avoid frequent washing, and use a vacuum cleaner or a damp cloth to wipe and clean.
Install gauze curtains in places with strong sunlight to reduce direct exposure of curtains and slow down aging.
Check the curtains regularly. If you find that the coating is peeling off, you can consider replacing or adding lining to enhance the shading effect.
High-quality blackout curtain fabrics will not easily fall off or age under normal use, but low-quality coated blackout fabrics may have problems such as coating peeling, brittleness, and fading due to washing or long-term use. If you need a more durable option, it is recommended to purchase black silk blackout fabrics or high-end uncoated blackout fabrics, and pay attention to daily maintenance.
